wellbeing with sally; get moving in march

As days lengthen and the sun brightens, March calls for us to get outdoors and inhale the fresh air. Whether that’s to shake off the winter blues or just to feel better physically and mentally, there’s no time like now to get started. So, let’s celebrate the month of March by prioritising your health through more activity and presence in nature!

  1. Take advantage of daylight! With March comes an extra hour of daylight for us! Take your sports and exercise outside. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel — mentally and physically — just by going outdoors for that extra serving of sun!

  2. Explore a new outdoor adventure — With the weather warmer, now is a perfect time to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Maybe it’s a hike you’ve always wanted to do, or bring out those rollerblades you haven’t touched in years! And if you can, engaging in one activity — whether it is playing frisbee or hiking a nature trail, can be so much fun and invigorating for both your body and your mind!

  3. Get away from your desk - If you are heavily desk bound, it can be very easy to fall into a pattern of moving hardly at all. There is no better time, than March, to get the wake-up call to move!

  4. Train for something — a 5K or a fun run, say — can help keep you in the game.

  5. Mindful movement: Outdoor Yoga or Tai Chi! For a slightly less vigorous type of movement, try practicing Yoga or Tai Chi outdoors. Nature is the ideal setting for mindfulness. Holding stretches and breathing and flowing through movements outside generally reduces stress, improves moods and promotes flexibilities.

  6. Have a nature mental health break — Something about nature is inherently soothing, so March is the perfect time to appreciate its tranquillity. Whether it means sitting under a tree in the park, walking along a river or breathing in deep while you look up at the clouds, spending moments finding connection in your surroundings can help you reduce stress and clear your mind.

  7. Gardening is in many ways a style of physical activity that uses movement with a mental breather. Gardening can provide a low-impact workout, from digging and planting to watering and weeding, all while helping you connect with the earth. Watching your plants grow all season can also be rewarding and fun.

  8. Dance like no one is watching!! Sometimes the best way to move is to just get down and party. Play your best music!

So…..Whatever your flavour, enjoy March and get moving…you’ll love it!
