Here at West Sussex County Council (WSCC) we are proud that care leavers are a protected characteristic, and we are keen to support more of our care leavers into employment and training opportunities with the local authority.
I’m Matt Brill, and started working at WSCC as an Employability Adviser in May 2024. I can offer our Care Leavers additional support around your employability skills for roles in the Council, including:

CV and cover letter support
Identifying skills and suitable roles within WSCC
Application form and supporting statement advice
Mock interviews and interview preparation
WSCC offer a range of amazing career opportunities across many services from office support roles to the Fire Service, schools and education to care, environment to community services, and many more in between. You can watch our short video that shows a journey through a number of our services and job roles here.
You can also visit our website to find out more about our Featured Jobs and hear some Staff Stories to get more of a feel for the wide range of services that we offer to our local residents and communities, and our next generation of employees.

We are also keen to develop more apprenticeship opportunities to bring in new recruits during 2025, to complement the fantastic range of apprenticeships that current staff can already access through our vast internal training and development offer. We currently have an Administration apprenticeship vacancy that you can register your interest for. For more information and to apply, search for ‘apprenticeships’ on our WSCC Jobs page.
There are also a range of volunteering opportunities with WSCC, ranging from community, libraries, children’s and adult’s services, and environmental settings to name a few.
You might just want a chat about your career options and where WSCC can offer you that first step, or you may already know that you want to move into one of our exciting opportunities, and maybe need some advice and support to help you get there. Either way, please reach out and contact me through email JobSupport@westsussex.gov.uk or by letting your Personal Adviser know, if you’d like to discuss with them in the first instance. We’re all here to support you in your life and career goals.
If you’d like an informal chat about how I can help you during 2025, please let me know and it would be great to hear from you.
