health and wellbeing month week 2; physical wellbeing

Physical wellbeing is about caring for, respecting, and advocating for your body.

It involves focusing on habits that promote physical health, like sleep, exercise and nutrition. It’s knowing how to navigate healthy choices and understanding what your body needs, not only when you are sick, but also to prevent illness and injury. Moving your body, eating nutritious meals or sleeping eight hours a night are some of many ways you can boost your physical wellness each day.

  • Alcohol is a powerful chemical that can have a wide range of adverse effects on almost every part of your body, including your brain, bones and heart. • Smoking is the most common cause of preventable disease in the UK. Nearly 78,000 people die each year in the UK from smoking-related causes. Many more live in poor health because of smoking. Physical effects of smoking on your body: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA-s39UH4QY

  • Physical activity: Adults should do some type of physical activity every day. Exercise just once or twice a week can reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke.

    activity

This week, staff were invited to go for a 20 minute walk at lunch with their colleagues. If they work remotely, they were encouraged to do several 20-min walks this week. How many walks could you fit in to your working week? Perhaps there are a few options where you're using the car and could walk instead.
