digital skills & safety workshop with WSCC

Recently, our On Track to Work and ESOL students participated in a valuable workshop led by Hannah, Digital Safety Delivery Officer with West Sussex County Council’s Community Safety and Wellbeing team. This session focused on building safe online habits—a critical skill for everyone, but especially young people, in today’s digital world.

Throughout the workshop, students learned about general online safety, especially when browsing the internet and using social media. Hannah also covered online exploitation, with a specific focus on how easily your online data and information can be obtained. Another important topic was online misinformation, where students explored how online influencers shape perceptions and learned how to evaluate information critically.

The session also provided practical advice on managing online profiles across various platforms, emphasizing the importance of privacy settings and being cautious about what personal information to share. Hannah also introduced the Computer Misuse Act 1990, explaining how it relates to online activities like gaming.

This workshop empowered our students with essential knowledge, underscoring the importance of staying safe and informed in a digital age. We extend our thanks to Hannah Dow and the WSCC Digital Skills and Safety team for delivering such an insightful and engaging session!
